Garrison Red walls and Tortilla Soup

So I am sitting on my bed recovering from painting (i'm helping out a friend we're staying with, by giving him an awesome deal (aka free) on decorating work).
I found a color "Garrison Red". It's a nice mix between a dark rose and burgundy. maybe. It was quite close to another color I love just because of the name- "Cocoa Rose". It has a nice ring to it. I usually end up going with colors based on their name. Ok, they usually match the room really well too!!!
Anyway... this post is really to stick this yummy recipe on here!
It's delicious and warmness all mixed together. (and it's from Family Circle... ssh!)
Tortilla Soup
Juice from one lime
3/4 pound of chicken breast (whole)
2 tbsp of hot chili powder

2 tsp of oil
3 cloves of garlic, minced
1 can (14 1/2oz) of jalapeno flavored diced tomatoes
3 cups of low sodium chicken broth

1/2 cup of shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 avocado, cut into chunks
Tortilla chips

First- Heat broiler. Drizzle lime juice on chicken. Sprinkle with 1 tsp of chili powder. Coat pan with nonstick spray. Broil chicken 5-6 minutes on both sides.
*(if you have leftover chicken from another meal you can use that instead)*
Second- Heat oil in large deep pot over medium heat; add garlic and chili powder. Cook 1 minute. Add tomatoes (plus juice) and chicken broth. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes, covered.
Third- Shred chicken and add to chicken broth mixture. Simmer for another 5 minutes.
Separate into 4 bowls. Top with cheese, avocado and crushed tortilla chips.

daring to dream...

Today I stopped in at one of my favorite antique stores. I was in another favorite antique store just the other day as well. I think it's hilarious that some of my first stops back in the states are my favorite antique stores! (ok, we hit up our favorite restaurants first!)

Anyway, I breezed through the store... stopping by all my favorite Shabby Chic booths and skimming over the rest.

I dared to dream- an old fan, a little bird cage, old alarm clocks, wrought iron furniture, old glass bottles - I was excited and I was ready to decorate. Living out of suitcases will do it to you too.

I was wondering today, how much longer we would wait- before hearing something on a job, which would then establish where we would live, which would eventually answer the "when", and all the millions of other questions I have.
I thought of all the things I packed up more than a year ago.
How I would arrange things.
How my favorite colors have changed.
How my style has changed.
If I would be ready to get rid of things I held onto for no apparent reason. So many questions.
But I do know... can't wait to decorate. can't wait to have my own space.

It took a bit of work, but I got them off the phone!!! yay! I can't wait to go back and look more closely for some fun items. Maybe catalog prices of things.. and see if they do layaways? that would be awesome!
